Drip Irrigation Systems

If you install trees and/or shrubs on your property, please note that newly planted material needs water about 3 times a week, for the first 2 years, until they are well established. This is the most important aspect of ensuring your tree’s survival.

We use drip irrigation in our nurseries & highly recommend it for watering plants spread over a large area. It is easy to install, basically maintenance free, and does not need to be drained or stored for winter. The emitters do not require large volumes of water, meaning wells can supply these systems. The setup only waters only the tree, hooks up to a garden hose, and is relatively inexpensive.

Irrigation FAQ

  • Max Distance? - 1000ft of drip tube is the max length you should run per section. Adding Tees or Elbows is ok within this 1000ft.
  • Number of emitters per foot? - 135 Emitters max per 1000ft run.
  • Do first and last emitter produce same watering amount? - As long as you have enough flow of water, the first and the last emitter will put out the same 8 litres per hour of water, as each emitter is presure regulated.
  • What is pressure needed? - This system works best between 10-18 PSI. More PSI will not help or hurt, as the emitters will only produce 8 litres per hour.
  • Can I setup a gravity fed system? - Gravity feeding the system will work, but need to have a minimum of 25ft difference in height from your tank valve to the first emitter. You gain about 0.5 PSI per foot of elevation drop. If the water tank is a fair distance from the trees, we recommend starting at a 1 inch line from the tank, then reduce down to the 1/2 inch line closer to the plants.
