5 Star Trees Ltd. is committed to producing and supplying the highest quality, hardy plant stock, while running Clean Plants certified, environmentally friendly farms.
Through honesty, wholesome values, hard work, our government-certified safety program (COR), and strict environmental practices, we will continue to create and foster long term relationships with our clients.
Our client's success, everyone's safety, and protecting the environment, are 5 Star Trees' highest priorities. We will work to our maximum capacity to ensure these are achieved.
We place great emphasis on our seed source selection, to ensure hardiness for our trading area. The following are a few of our speciality seed sources:
Our American Elm seed is collected locally from the center of Calgary.
Our Trembling Aspen seed is gathered at high elevation, in Fernie, B.C. One of its unique traits, is it leafs out later than other seed sources, making it unaffected by late spring frosts, as has occurred the last few years.
We have a beautiful crop of White Spruce maturing, with the seed collected in Cochrane, Alberta. These are very uniform and fuller branching habits than other seed sources.
Our Limber Pine, Scots Pine, Mountain Pine, and Ponderosa Pine are all locally collected seed sources, and our Douglas Fir seed is collected around Shaganappi Golf Course in Calgary.
Our Willows and Poplars are local to the High River area. We have a special license to collect specific varieties in Fish Creek Park, Calgary.
We are always working to expand our seed provenance to ensure you get the proven, hardiest plants possible.
Protecting our environment continues to be a top focus. We take the extra time and effort to fill in our harvested tree holes with freshly composted topsoil, instead of simply tilling the ground to fill in holes. This allows us to maintain our farm's soil quality indefinitely, preserving our land for future use.
New high efficient electrical irrigation pumps, coupled with low flow drip irrigation on all our fields, helps to vastly reduce our water consumption and environmental impact. The electrical pumps are much quieter than old school gas powered ones, which allows wildlife to thrive nearby. Low flow drip irrigation only waters the specific tree rows, at near 100% efficiency.
We work with local companies to collect and compost local raw material, and turn it into great soil for our trees. This keeps usable, compostable materials out of the dump, and instead, puts its potential to better use.
We love our local communities and are proud to support, and partner with, many groups and organizations each year. Our community involvement includes in-kind and financial donations, employee volunteer days, enduring nonprofit partnerships, and more.
We are a local company, our team members are local, and we support making our local community a better place for all. If interested in working with us, please contact us.
